Birds:

As previously stated, the bird colonies are the major point of interest of the Lake and the National Park.Birds may be classified in two groups according to the nature of their visit to Kuscenneti:1- Breeding birds2- Migratory birds

1-Breeding birds: Generally these stay between early March and mid July. There are 66 breeding sepcies. These are:

Podicipedidae:

Podiceps cristatus (Great crested grebe)

Podiceps ruficollis (Little grebe)                                .

Pelecanidea:

Pelecanus Crispus (Dalmatian pelican) (This is the Largest breeding bird in Kuscenneti, which bred for the first time on man-made platforms in the willow tress in 1968. Naturally these are ground nesting birds, and thus the event attracted much interes among ornithologsts.)

Phalacrocoracidae:

Phalacrocorax pygmeus (Pygmy cormorant)

Phalacrocorax carbo (cormorant)

Ardeidae:

Ardea cinerea (Grey heron)

Ardea purpurea (Purple heron)

Egretta garzetta (Litle egret)

Ardeola ralloides (Squaco heron)

Nycticorax nycticorax (Night heron)

Threstiornithidea:

Plataiea leucordia (Spoon bill)

(This is the best known bird of the National Park, and also decreasing in numbers in many parts of the world, it is steadily increasing at Kuscenneti)

Plegadis falcinellus (Glossy ibis)

(The first breeding pairs were recorded in 1971, but the numbers increased rapidly so that there were over 500 breeding pairs in 1982)

2- Migratory birds: These are more than the beeding species in both number and variet, though some of these can be fitted into the breeding group as well. For example, the mallard breeds at the park and is also a migrant in winter. Some of the migratory birds are as follows (breeding birds not included):
